Video Legend:
The video shows the rostrocaudal propagation of
motoneuron optical signals recorded during rhythmic activity induced by stimulation of a coccygeal ventral root (30mA,
4 Hz). The motoneurons were labeled
retrogradely with calcium green dextran and viewed through the ventral white
matter. The first three lumbar segments are visible. The video was created by
subtracting each frame from a control image (no activity) and then normalizing
the images by dividing each difference image by the control image. Only the
rhythmic transients are shown. This was accomplished by subtracting the trough
in each cycle of the normalized image from the normalized difference images.
The video is played at 1/3 real time.
