The following five-point density scale was used; ++++, highest density; +++, high density; ++, moderate density; +, low density; –, undetectable. Asterisks denote that in the wild-type mice, MC4-R mRNA was undetectable in layer 1 of the cerebral cortex or in the subcortical structure.
