Triple label fluorescence visualization of ZBP granules (red), synapsin (blue) concentration at a presynaptic contact, and FITC-phalloidin labeling of a dendritic spine (green). 3D reconstruction of a deconvolved Z-series (Imaris software, Bitplane) depicts a track-like or clustered arrangement of several ZBP1 (red) granules in the dendritic shaft. A cluster of ZBP1 granules is also observed on one side of a large spine (green) beneath a large presynaptic contact (blue) along the spine neck in a crevasse between the dendritic shaft and the bulbous spine head.

Dendritic transport of a EGFP-ZBP1 granule moving in a persistent retrograde trajectory toward the cell body of a cultured hippocampal neuron.

Fluorescence visualization of b-actin mRNA (red) and ZBP1 (green).
3D reconstruction of a deconvolved Z-series (Imaris software, Bitplane) illustrates granules that contain both ZBP1 and b-actin mRNA signal within the spine and shaft.
