Boosting of Action Potential Backpropagation by Neocortical Network Activity In Vivo
J. Neurosci. Waters and Helmchen 24: 11127

Supplemental data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplementary Figure 1. Spatial profile of dendritic calcium transients evoked by extracellular stimulation. (A) Example of the spatial profile of the peak amplitude of single AP-evoked dendritic calcium transients induced by extracellular stimulation. Transients were measured along the apical dendrite at various distances from the soma. At each location several transients were measured and averaged. Distance from the soma is normalized to the distance between soma and pia (same horizontal scale as in (B)). A skewed Gaussian curve is fit to the data points. (B) Average single-AP profiles for extracellular stimulation (solid line, n = 3) and for current injection (dashed line; n = 7; from Fig. 2f, reference 9). Each individual data point is the ratio of synaptically-evoked calcium transient amplitude to the current-evoked amplitude at one location in the dendrite. Points with a ratio of one would lie on the dashed line. The profile for current injection was normalized to its maximum amplitude. The amplitude of the profile for synaptic stimulation was adjusted by scaling it to fit the points.
