Evidence for an Instructive Role of Retinal Activity in Retinotopic Map Refinement in the Superior Colliculus of the Mouse

  • Supplemental Fig. 1 - Supplementary Figure: Quantification and location of retinal injections. a. Example retinal whole mount under bright field illumination showing the dye injection. The size of these injections was quantified by measuring the area of retina above half max fluorescence, after background subtraction. b. The location of the dye injection around the perimeter of the retina was identified relative to the insertion point of the four principle eye muscles (SR superior rectus; MR medial rectus; IR inferior rectus and LR lateral rectus; see Plas et al., 2005). After preparing the retinal whole mount, the position of the dye injections relative to the outer edge of the retina and the optic nerve was measured. Red (n=11 WT and ?2+/-) and green (n=5 ?2-/-) circles show the location of injections in P6/7 mice with successful retinal fillets for which the size of retinal injections could be quantified.
