  • supplemental material - Supplemental Material: The role of system Xc- in growth control of malignant gliomas System Xc- serves as the principle uptake pathway for cystine for the synthesis of glutathione (GSH) which is essential to protect cells from mitochondrially generated reactive oxygen species (ROS). Inhibition of cystine uptake leads to loss of GSH resulting in ROS mediated apoptosis.
