Peripheral Pathways Regulate Motoneuron Collateral Dynamics
J. Neurosci. Redett et al. 25: 9406

Supplemental data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplemental Figure 1. The rat femoral nerve model as modified for these experiments. The femoral nerve derives sensory innervation from the L2, L3, L4, and occasionally L5 dorsal root ganglia (DRGs). Lumbar hemilaminectomy expose these DRGs, and all contributing to the femoral nerve are excised. Under the same anaesthetic, the ipsilateral femoral nerve is transected proximally and the ends held 1/2mm apart by suturing them within silicon tubing. Distally, the nerve gives off two small branches to iliacus and pectineus muscles before terminating in a muscle branch to the quadriceps and a cutaneous branch which includes the saphenous nerve. The peripheral pathways may be left in continuity with muscle and skin (End Organ), or may be blocked off to prevent end organ contact (No End Organ).
