Calpain-Regulated p35/cdk5 Plays a Central Role in Dopaminergic Neuron Death through Modulation of the Transcription Factor Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2
J. Neurosci. Smith et al. 26: 440

Supplemental data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplemental Figure 1: Proposed calpain-p35/cdk5-MEF2 pathway mediating dopaminergic cell loss in vivo. MPTP induces elevation in intracellular calcium levels which in turn results in activation of calpains. Increased calpain activity results in cleavage of the cdk5 activator, p35 to form p25. The p25/cdk5 complex phosphorylates MEF2D resulting in inhibition of survival signals and cell death.
