Supplementary Figure 1. a) Schematic drawing of a bilateral L5-S2 ventral root avulsion (VRA) injury and bilateral implantation of the avulsed L6 and S1 ventral roots into the lateral funiculus of the spinal cord. Note that the injury occurs along the surface of the spinal cord at the transition zone between the CNS and PNS border. b) Cartoon drawing illustrating the urodynamic setup. Using an infusion pump, a transurethral catheter (blue) fills the bladder continuously with saline at 0.22 ml/min and passes through a pressure transducer that measures the bladder pressure. Two EMG electrodes are hooked into the external urethral sphincter (EUS). The bladder pressure and EMG activity are amplified and simultaneously recorded into the computer for subsequent analysis.
