Rats were implanted bilaterally with guide cannulae aimed at either the LA or BLA. After behavioral testing, the rats were perfused with 4% formaldehyde, and their brains were sectioned at 40 μm thickness stained for Nissl bodies and examined by light microscopy. Scale bar: 0.5 mm

Supplemental figure 2. Co-treatment of DCS with extinction training does not affect total amount of GluR1 levels.
Rats were conditioned, 24 h later they were infused with DCS (10 μg per side) bilaterally into the amygdala 30 min before extinction training. Twenty-four hours after extinction training, LA and BLA tissues were dissected out and the total GluR1 was measured in tissue homogenates. Fear conditioning and co-treatment of DCS with light-alone trials did not affect the total GluR1 levels.
