Ubiquitous and Temperature-Dependent Neural Plasticity in Hibernators
J. Neurosci. von der Ohe et al. 26: 10590

Supplemental data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplementary Figure 1. Torpor-related changes in neural microstructure. A-C, Structural parameters for A, cortical spiny stellate cells, B, ventral posterior thalamic relay cells, and C, hippocampal CA3 neurons at specific time points in a torpor bout, as indicated in the body temperature graph below. Parameters shown are mean ± s.e.m.: length and width of the dendritic field, average dendritic path length per dendrite, maximum branch order, and average number of nodes per dendrite. Group means comprise data from 25-35 cells from the 6-7 animals per group. Means from a group of ground squirrels in the summer provide a comparison with winter euthermic values, and are represented by a dashed line through each graph. Statistically significant comparisons (at α=0.05) are marked with asterisks above bars: *= A>B, **= A>D, and ***= E>D. Not all significant comparisons are shown here.
