Supplemental Figure 1: Paradigm
(A) Patients were recruited through advertisements, and those screened in a phone interview were invited to participate. They were consented and tested for thresholds before undergoing their first fMRI scan, and returned for a second fMRI session about 4 weeks later. Aggregated image group analysis and ROI-based analysis were performed in this study.
(B) The face was stimulated with brush, cold, and heat in 4 areas as indicated in the diagram. The red square indicates the area of neuropathic pain. Each set of stimuli consisted of 3 25-sec stimuli interspersed with 1 minute resting states. Subjects utilized an on-line VAS scale to rate their pain experience during stimulation.
