Delayed Development of Adult-Generated Granule Cells in Dentate Gyrus
J. Neurosci. Overstreet-Wadiche et al. 26: 2326

Supplemental data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplemental Figure 1. Differential expression of NeuroD in neonates and adults. a) There was robust NeuroD expression in dentate granule cells in neonate hippocampus. Essentially all EGFP-labeled newborn granule cells expressed NeuroD and they were surrounded by unlabeled granule cells that expressed NeuroD. Scale bar, 100 µm. b) Similar to pCREB, NeuroD expression was low in the granule cell layer from adults. However, all EGFP-labeled newborn granule cells expressed NeuroD. Scale bar, 20 µm.
  • supplemental material - Supplemental Figure 2. Altered EGFP-labeled granule cells in adult GAD65-/- mice. a) In contrast to neonates, newborn granule cells (green) in adult GAD65-/- mice had an altered appearance compared to wildtype littermates (b), with larger cell bodies and dendrites that extended through the molecular layer. This appearance is similar to that observed after experimentally-induced seizures, when functional maturation is accelerated (Overstreet-Wadiche et al., submitted). The granule cell layer is stained with propidium iodide (red). Black and white images are overexposed to illustrate details. Scale bar, 100 µm.
