Wnt Signaling Promotes Regeneration in the Retina of Adult Mammals
J. Neurosci. Osakada et al. 27: 4210

Supplemental Data

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • supplemental material - Supplemental Figure 1. The adult primate retina has the repair potential. (A) Confocal photomicrographs of BrdU-labeled proliferating cells (green) in the adult monkey retina. Dividing cells were labeled with BrdU for 4 days (n=4). On average, 1.7 ± 0.6 cells/field were labeled with BrdU in the INL of retinal explants. Scale bar, 100 μm. (B) Newly generated cells differentiate into photoreceptor cells in the monkey retina. Explants were treated with Wnt3a (100 ng/ml) for 4 days, and subsequently with RA (0.3 μM) for 7 days (n=4). BrdU-labeled cells (green) express rhodopsin (red) in the ONL. ONL, outer nuclear layer; INL, inner nuclear layer; GCL, ganglion cell layer. Scale bar, 50 μm.
