Cover picture: Distribution of neurons projecting from the primary visual cortex (V1) to area MT in the macaque monkey. In this surface view, the location of all cells (blue spheres) in layer 4B that were retrogradely labeled by a tracer injection in MT is superimposed on the cytochrome oxidase pattern. This family of projection neurons resides in patch (black outlines) and interpatch (white outlines) compartments, suggesting that MT receives a mix of visual signals from V1. Approximately 5% of these neurons have manifold axons, sending one branch to MT and another to the second visual area (V2). The width of the field is 2.9 mm. For details, see the article by Sincich and Horton in this issue (pages 5684–5692).
