We performed additional experiments � cell-attached recordings of spontaneous spikes in periglomerular as well as mitral cells to determine how the firing rates of cells were altered in control vs. occluded slices. There appears to be a large variability in the pattern and frequency of firing of these cells, but there was a trend indicating a higher degree of spontaneous spiking in occluded slices compared to control.
