About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Increased [Ca2+]i in ganglion cells of isolated rabbit retina in response to treatment with 50 µM nicotine. Calcium imaging was made possible by loading ganglion cells, by direct injection into retina, with calcium green-1 conjugated to molecular weight 10,000 dextran. The typical response to nicotine, denoted by pseudocolor coding blue to green, was a 40-60% increase in fluorescence intensity over baseline (Delta F/F). Intensity increases of >60% are pseudocolored yellow. Intensity changes of <40% are pseudocolored purple to blue, and changes of <10% are not coded (black). See the article by Baldridge in this issue (pp. 5060-5072).
