About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Motor terminals on dually innervated Drosophila larval longitudinal muscles double-labeled with monoclonal antibody 22C10 (green) and anti-synaptotagmin (red). Synaptic vesicles labeled by anti-synaptotagmin are found within presynaptic varicosities in regions that exclude the 22C10 antigen, probably a component of the axonal cytoskeleton. The large size of these synaptic boutons allows significant morphological detail to be discernable by optical microscopic methods. Using a panel of compartment-specific markers, and shibirets mutants to arrest an intermediate stage in synaptic vesicle recycling, Estes et al. (pp. 5443-5456) have studied the localization and redistribution of dynamin within individual synaptic boutons.
