About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Cell types and organization of the subventricular zone, a neural germinal layer in the adult brain. On the left is a composite of electronmicrographs of this region in cross-section. On the right is a color-coded computer rendition of this same section. A novel undifferentiated subventricular zone precursor (green) was identified. Clusters of these precursors are found next to migrating neuroblasts (red), which form chains running parallel to the walls of the lateral ventricle. The chains of young neurons are ensheathed by processes of glial cells (blue). The ependymal cells are gray. For details, see the article by Doetsch et al. (pp. 5046-5061).
