Cover picture: Cellular expression of mRNA
transcripts of inwardly rectifying K+ (Kir) channels in the
developing rat brain at postnatal day 21. The figure depicts
false-color transformations of digitized mRNA expression patterns as
revealed by radiolabeled oligonucleotide in situ
hybridization. Representative expression patterns of Kir channel
subunits in adjacent 16 µm sagittal sections have been superimposed
to demonstrate (1) forebrain and midbrain expression (Kir2.1 in
red, Kir2.3 in yellow; at top), (2)
differential expression (Kir2.1 in red, Kir2.2 in
blue; in the middle), and (3) overlapping expression (Kir3.1 in green, Kir3.2 in magenta;
at the bottom). For details, see the article by Comu et al.,
in this issue (pp. 8702-8710).
