About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Immunostaining of the high-affinity glutamate transporter sEAAT1 surrounding rod and cone photoreceptors of the salamander retina. Intensity is coded as color, with red representing highest density of staining. The cyan staining in photoreceptor outer segments is attributable to autofluorescence in the fluoroscein channel, because subsequent staining using CY5-labeled secondary antibodies did not reproduce this result. The image is a digital overlay of a black-and-white image using differential interference optics and a false-color image of a 0.5-µM-thick optical slice using a confocal microscope. Microscopy courtesy of Eva Shannon. For details, see article by Eliasof et al., in this issue (pp. 698-712).
