Cover picture: Immunofluorescence micrograph (center) and confocal micrographs (surround) of the same cultured hippocampal neuron showing the expression pattern of transfected mutant presenilin-1 (PS1) A246E 24 hr after transduction with a recombinant replication-defective adenovirus. Staining is embryonic day 17 hippocampal neurons 12 d in culture using a human-specific monoclonal antibody directed at the N terminus of presenilin-1. Intense human PS1 staining is depicted in red and is punctate and perinuclear, whereas moderate human PS1 staining is seen in magenta and extends into axonal and dendritic swellings. For details, see the article by Weihl et al., in this issue (pages 5360-5369).
