About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Top, Two-photon confocal scan of the lobula giant movement detector (LGMD) stained with Lucifer yellow. This identified neuron in the locust's optic lobes is though to play an important role in the tracking of objects approaching the animal on a collision course. Bottom, Rotated view of an LGMD neuron after reconstruction showing the three dendritic subfields receiving excitatory (red) and inhibitory (blue and magenta) inputs, respectively. These inputs shape the time course of LGMD's response to looming objects. (Thanks to S. Potter and S. Hagmann for help with two-photon confocal scan and design.) For details, see the article by Gabbiani et al., in this issue (pages 1122-1141).
