About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Recycling of cell adhesion molecule L1 in the axonal growth cone migrating via an L1-dependent mechanism. L1 is internalized via the clathrin-mediated pathway at the central domain of the growth cone (top left). Then internalized L1 is transported into the peripheral domain of the growth cone (top right). Internal L1 is reinserted into the plasma membrane at the leading edge (bottom right) followed by retrograde movement over the cell surface into the central domain (bottom left). This L1 trafficking in the growth cone along with cytoplasmic molecules that are presumably involved in this pathway is illustrated (center inset). For details, see the article by Kamiguchi and Lemmon, in the issue (pages 3676-3686).
