About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Magnetic resonance brain images through the level of the temporal lobes of the noted amnesic patient H. M. (left) and amnesic patient E. P. (right). Damaged tissue is indicated by bright signal. Although H. M.'s lesion was produced by surgical resection and E. P.'s lesion was caused by viral encephalitis, the extent of the lesion is strikingly similar in the two patients as is the severity of their memory impairment. Scale bar, 2 cm. The magnetic resonance image for H. M. is reprinted from Corkin et al. (1997), their Figure 4D. For details, see the article by Stefanacci et al. in this issue (pages 7024-7036).
