Cover picture: Fluorescent micrograph of a mouse motor axon injected with the calcium indicator Oregon Green-5N, which distributed in the axon and in two motor nerve terminals (bottom left, grayscale). A series of images, acquired at fixed time intervals (displayed diagonally from top left to bottom right) show one of the terminals before (top yellow frame), during (red frames), and after (bottom yellow frame) a train of action potentials was elicited by stimulating the axon at 100 Hz for 10 sec. The dye detects a stimulation-induced cytosolic [Ca2+] increase in the terminal boutons, but not in the preterminal axon. For details, see the article by David and Barrett in this issue (pages 7290-7296).
