About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Brain of the sonic fish. A dorsal view of the entire brain is shown, with the olfactory bulbs at the top and the spinal cord at the bottom. The two glossy bubbles on either side of the posterior part of the brain are gas-filled bladders that function as hearing organs, translating sound pressure into motion in a manner that is similar to the tympanic membrane in humans. At the widest point (across the ear bladders), the image is ~8 mm. For details, see the article by Kozloski and Crawford, in this issue (pages 2400-2408).
