Cover picture: Astrocytes incorporate the chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan neurocan into a pericellular, substrate-bound extracellular matrix in vitro. Living astrocytes were labeled for neurocan (red), fixed in methanol, and then labeled for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP; green). Neurocan was seen on the substrate around GFAP-positive astrocytes but not on the cells. For details, see the article by Asher et al., in this issue (pages 2427-2438).
