About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Three-dimensional reconstruction of a specific olfactory glomerulus imaged with a two-photon laser scanning microscope. The mouse genome was engineered such that olfactory sensory neurons that express one of the ~1000 odorant receptor genes known as M72 also express green fluorescent protein. This image shows axons of M72-expressing neurons converging into the same glomerulus. No stray axons are detectable. Comparison of M72 glomeruli within an individual mouse or among different mice shows that the pathways taken by the axons and axon bundles are idiosyncratic. For details, see the article by Potter et al. in this issue (pages 9713-9723).
