About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Picture: The vesicular glutamate transporter VGLUT2 is a novel synaptic vesicle marker that is selective for the terminal fields of a distinct set of excitatory pathways in the CNS. Here, double-immunofluorescent staining and confocal laser scanning microscopy reveal VGLUT2-positive synapses (red) onto MAP2-positive dendrites and neuronal perikarya (green) in the ventral horn of the rat spinal cord. For the complete characterization of the pathway-specific, complementary expression of the two different vesicular glutamate transporters, see the article by Varoqui et al. in this issue (pages 142-155).
