About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover picture: Images of somatosensory cortical activity in response to vibrotactile stimulation of the digit 4 fingerpad in the squirrel monkey. Dark pixels in each image indicate activation. A similar temporal development of topographically appropriate signal is observed in the awake (top row) and anesthetized (bottom row) states. However, in the awake state stronger activation is observed in area 1 (top right corners of images), whereas in the anesthetized state stronger activation is observed in area 3b (bottom left of images). This may indicate a possible shift in the flow of information in the awake state versus the anesthetized state. For details, see the article by Chen et al. in the August 17, 2005 issue (pages 7648-7659).
