Cover legend: A micropatterned island of cultured hippocampal neurons. The size of a patterned neuronal network was geometrically scaled, whereas the functional synaptic properties of neurons within each island were assessed using intracellular electrophysiology and confocal microscopy. Neurons were found to redistribute synaptic strength depending on the size of the neuronal network in which they were situated.
