Neurons were preincubated for 30 min with or without 200 μm sodium acetate and further incubated for 30 min with 200 μm H₂O₂ in either the presence or absence of sodium acetate. Neuronal survival was estimated 24 hr later. Results are expressed as the percentage of surviving neurons compared with control cultures. Data are the mean ± SEM of three independent experiments performed in triplicate. NS, Not significantly different from the corresponding values obtained in the absence of acetate (ANOVA followed by Bonferroni’s test).
