  • The saline and ethanol responses were determined as described in the legends to Tables 1 and 2. The saline–ethanol challenge was repeated in all animals 7–10 d after the first trial. For each interval data are also presented for the average of trial1and trial2. The F test compared the average of the variances from trials 1 and 2 to the variance associated with the average activity. Test–retest data were calculated as the correlation between trial1 and trial2. The absolute value of the difference between trial1 and trial2 was calculated and used to rank order the animals. The 10% of the animals showing the poorest test–retest reliability were censored from the data set. The censored (C) values for the average response and the test–retest reliability are also presented (0–5 and 5–20 min intervals, only). All data are presented as the mean ± SD.
