The +/0 symbols used forbchs4 allele reflect the presence of the protein in young adults and its absence in aged individuals. The relative levels of ubiquitin and APPL aggregate formation detected by confocal (starting at 10 d of age) are summarized by + (presence) or 0 (absence) symbols. Of the three independent experiments done to examine levels of insoluble ubiquitin-conjugated proteins (IUCP), the representative Western blot in Figure 6 was used to calculate the fold increase after correcting for load (histone 2B) and normalization to wild-type controls.
