Indeed, lesion experiments of the DCN in monkeys revealed deficits in skilled forelimb performance with limited defects in hindlimb function [60]. Corticospinal inputs from sensorimotor cortex onto the DCN-complex also induce both direct excitatory (i.e. glutamatergic) effects, and indirect post inhibitory effects (i.e. GABAergic), via inhibitory INs within the DCN-complex (Figure 2b) [61–63].
