2022, GeneCitation Excerpt :In view of the granule cell loss, glutamate concentrations per protein weight decreased in the cerebellar cortex of 6, 9, and 12 month-old Agtpbp1pcd mutants (McBride and Ghetti, 1988). On the contrary, their glutamate concentrations per tissue weight were equivalent to controls in cerebellar cortex and deep nuclei at younger ages of 1–3 months (Roffler-Tarlov et al., 1979), presumably because of slowly progressing granule cell deterioration (Triarhou, 1998). Non-NMDA (n-methyl-d-asparate) receptor binding decreased in molecular and granule cell layers of the cerebellar cortex but not the deep nuclei of Agtpbp1pcd mutants (Stasi et al., 1997).

In the DCN, GABA is markedly reduced, consistent with loss of PC axon terminals (Roffler-Tarlov, Beart, O'Gorman, & Sidman, 1979). In addition, partial PC loss occurs in various mammalian species with aging, yet tremor does not occur (Nandy, 1981; Sturrock, 1989).
