Similar biphasic dose-related effects on sensory and motor neurons have been seen with neurotrophic factors such as nerve-growth factor [10], ciliary neurotrophic factor [2], and BDNF [50]. Because of this kind of dose–response pattern, it is critical to establish the appropriate therapeutic dose to elicit the maximum beneficial effect of BDNF.
