Postnatal development of the distribution of nitric oxide-producing neurons in the rat corpus callosum
2020, Neuroscience ResearchCitation Excerpt :NO is a messenger that modulates neurotransmitter release (Prast and Philippu, 2001) and could influence adenosine release by callosal axons (Swanson et al., 1998). The hypothesis is supported by studies performed in the cerebral cortex and the ventral striatum (Fischer et al., 1995; Dirnagl et al., 1994). NO could thus play both a direct and an indirect role in the control of callosal blood flow.
Neurovascular-neuroenergetic coupling axis in the brain: master regulation by nitric oxide and consequences in aging and neurodegeneration
2017, Free Radical Biology and MedicineCitation Excerpt :ATP is also suggested to induce •NO production in hippocampal neurons independently of glutamate signaling [60]. Conversely, •NO may modulate the purinergic signaling, for instance, by potentiating the adenosine release [61,62]. The classical view of the regulation of CBF presumes that arterioles, more precisely smooth muscle cells, are the sole effectors of vasodilation.
Up-regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor expression by adenosine through adenosine A<inf>2</inf> receptors in the rat tongue treated with endotoxin
2009, Archives of Oral BiologyCitation Excerpt :Additionally, data regarding the pattern of wound angiogenesis in different anatomic sites, such as oral and dermal locations, are scarce. Fischer et al.8 demonstrated that adenosine up-regulated VEGF mRNA expression in a dose- and time-dependent manner in porcine brain-derived microvascular endothelial cells under normoxic conditions. Takagi et al.9 reported that the adenosine A2 receptor (A2R) agonist DMPA increased VEGF mRNA expression in cultured bovine retinal pericytes under normoxic conditions.
