Reflexes involving triceps surae from the ankle joint of the cat

Abstract

The triceps surae of the cat was isolated from its insertion and its tension recorded isometrically. Its reflex responses to flexion and to extension of the ankle joint were recorded in decerebrate, spinal, and anesthetized normal animals. It had an initial phase of inhibition and a late one of excitation. In decerebrates transected at a high level, the early phase was diminished. In the chronic spinal and in the anesthetized normal ones, only the early phase of inhibition was retained.
