Micro-/nanofibers prepared via co-assembly of paclitaxel and dextran
2017, Carbohydrate PolymersCitation Excerpt :The water was changed every 3 h for first 12 h, and every 6 h for the last 36 h. Thirdly, the dried fibers were harvest by vacuum freeze-drying processing. The fluorescent fibers were prepared by substituting the normal DEX powder with DEX labeled with rhodamine (Cavalli et al., 2009; Dolleman-Van der Weel, Wouterlood, & Witter, 1994). DEX, PTX and freeze-dried PTX/DEX fibers were characterized by the FTIR analyzer (Nicolet 6700, ThermoFisher, USA) with transmission mode.
Neuroanatomical characterization of the cellular and axonal architecture of subcortical band heterotopia in the BXD29-Tlr4lps-2J/J mouse cortex
2016, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Our findings indicate limited callosal connections from normotopic cortex to contralateral heterotopia, which is consistent with agenesis of the posterior callosum in BXD29 mice (Rosen et al., 2013). While BDA is a highly-specific anterograde tracer in rats (Dolleman-Van der Weel et al., 1994; Lanciego et al., 1998), we found numerous examples of retrogradely-labeled neurons in addition to labeled axons in our histological database, suggesting that BDA can exhibit retrograde transport properties in mice (Ramos et al., 2008). We used this feature of BDA transport to our advantage to assess the presence of retrogradely-labeled neurons in SBH following tracer application or injection in the normotopic cortex above or adjacent to SBH.
Projections from the rat cuneiform nucleus to the A7, A6 (locus coeruleus), and A5 pontine noradrenergic cell groups
2013, Journal of Chemical NeuroanatomyCitation Excerpt :However, the anterograde labeling patterns produced by tritiated amino acids and PHA-L are quite similar anterograde labeling patterns in a variety of brain areas (Ter Horst et al., 1984). In addition, both PHA-L and BDA also produce similar anterograde labeling patterns in a variety of brain areas (Dolleman-Van der Weel et al., 1994; Wouterlood and Jorritsma-Byham, 1993). Furthermore, studies from our group have demonstrated virtually identical labeling patterns when PHA-L and BDA were used to determine the efferent projections of neurons from the ventromedial medulla (Clark and Proudfit, 1991c; Holden and Proudfit, 1998) to the A7 and LC cell groups.
Ultrastructural analysis of rat ventrolateral periaqueductal gray projections to the A5 cell group
2012, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :In this study, the BDA deposits were confined to the ventrolateral PAG and did not spread to the surrounding regions. In addition, the distribution of BDA-labeled axons and terminals within the pons was comparable to that of Phaseolus vulgaris-leucoagglutining (PHA-L), another anterograde tracer with different structural and transport characteristics (Gerfen et al., 1989; Wouterlood and Jorritsma-Byham, 1993; Dolleman-Van der Weel et al., 1994). In addition, we have previously demonstrated identical monosynaptic projections of neurons in the ventrolateral PAG both to the locus coeruleus (A6) (Bajic et al., 2000) and the A7 noradrenergic cell groups (Bajic et al., 2001) using either the BDA or PHA-L. Similarly, virtually identical labeling patterns were reported when using either PHA-L (Clark and Proudfit, 1991c) or BDA (Holden and Proudfit, 1998) to determine the efferent projections of neurons in the ventromedial medulla.
