2017, Biomedicine and PharmacotherapyCitation Excerpt :Serum Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was assayed colorimetrically according to the method of Koracevic et al. [26]. Brain/serum acetylcholine (ACh) levels, brain/Serum acetylcholinesterase (AChE) levels, serum dopamine (DA) levels, serum IL-6 levels, serum BDNF levels were all measured by ELISA (a sandwich enzyme Immunoassay) [27–31], respectively. Serum total Homocysteine (tHcy) levels were determined by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) according to Feussner et al. [32].
BDNF-TrkB receptor regulation of distributed adult neural plasticity, Memory formation, and psychiatric disorders
2014, Progress in Molecular Biology and Translational ScienceCitation Excerpt :With development and learning processes, BDNF elicits changes in the structure of dendrites and spines in mammalian neurons.2 Cells known to express BDNF in the central nervous system include fibroblasts,6 astrocytes,7 and neurons of varying phenotype and location.7–9 The activity of BDNF acts through two distinct receptor systems, its high-affinity tropomysin-related kinase B (TrkB) receptor and the low-affinity receptor p75 which is a common nonspecific receptor for all neurotrophins.10–12
BDNF is essentially required for the early postnatal survival of nociceptors
2010, Developmental BiologyLimited BDNF contributes to the failure of injury to skin afferents to produce a neuropathic pain condition
2010, PainCitation Excerpt :In consistent with the finding, we showed that transection of the GS nerve injured more A-type neurons and less C-type neurons than transection of the sural nerve did, but significant higher proportion of both A-type and C-type neurons expressed BDNF in GS nerve injury group, compared with sural nerve injury group. Previous works have shown that BDNF is confined in small C-type neurons in normal DRG [2,24] and that selective knockout of BDNF in nociceptors does not affect the development of neuropathic pain [49]. In the present work, we showed that 48.5 ± 3.4% of A-type neurons expressed BDNF following GS nerve injury, which is in line with previous works showing that larger neurons switches to a BDNF phenotype after nerve injury [32,51].
