Between molecules and experience: Role of early patterns of coordinated activity for the development of cortical maps and sensory abilities
2010, Brain Research ReviewsCitation Excerpt :The cochleotopic maps in the primary auditory cortex reproduce with high fidelity the preferred frequencies range. Similar to the other perception systems, the auditory system processes the information in an ordered way from the periphery, the inner hair cells along the auditory nerve, to the second order nuclei (in mammals, nucleus cochlearis) and third order nuclei (superior olivary complex and inferior colliculus) (Jhaveri and Morest, 1982; Friauf et al., 1997) (Fig. 1). The ordered information from the inferior colliculus reaches the thalamic medial geniculate body that provides projections to the auditory cortex.

2006, Hearing ResearchPrenatal auditory enrichment with species-specific calls and sitar music modulates expression of Bcl-2 and Bax to alter programmed cell death in developing chick auditory nuclei
2005, International Journal of Developmental NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :This could be associated with the mitochondria present in the somatic processes. The increase in Bcl-2 immunoreactivity at E16 in control embryos coincides with the developmental increase in mitochondria reported in nm at this age (Jhaveri and Morest, 1982). The auditory-stimulated embryos additionally show Bcl-2 immunopositive densities on nm neurons, similar to those positive for synaptophysin and syntaxin 1 (Alladi et al., 2002).
