Hair cells express two isoforms, β-actin and γ-actin (encoded by Actb and Actg1,respectively), which are 99% identical in amino acid sequence [62,63]. All actins can reversibly polymerize into polarized filaments (filamentous or F-actin) with barbed and pointed ends, which were named for their appearance when decorated with myosin S1 fragments [64].
