High level of SO2 could decrease the ATPase and other mitochondrial enzyme activity, and this could induce apoptosis [11,12]. While SO2 has antioxidation effect on mitochondria, which could reduce oxidative stress and then inhibits apoptosis in cancer cells under oxidative stress [13,14].
