2002, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :For example, the double reverse α7mutant (M263I,S269V) showed exactly the same degree of halothane insensitivity as had the native α7 homomer (data not shown), and all the other single and double mutations we made produced only relatively small effects on halothane sensitivity. Neuronal nACh receptors are members of an anesthetic-sensitive superfamily (4, 24) of fast neurotransmitter-gated ion channels (that also includes the GABAA, glycine, and 5-HT3receptors). They are present in the nervous system as both α homomers and αβ heteromers, the latter being probably the most sensitive targets for volatile general anesthetics that have yet been identified.
