    An autoimmune reaction to the inner ear structures could result from one of several possible pathogenic factors. Many autoantigens have been implicated as possible causal antigens in AIED: heat shock protein 70 [5,6], collagen II [7,8], cochlin [9,10], and, most recently, β-tubulin [11–15]. Autoantibodies have long been suspected of mediating AIED.
