Abstract

Objective: To investigate the expression of the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor gamma 1 subunit in the end-organs of rat vestibule.

Method: Using a combination of reverse transcription followed by polymerase chain reaction, expression of the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor gamma 1 subunit in the end-organs of rat vestibule was examined. The rat brain RNA was used as positive control.

Result: PCR amplification products representing subunit gene expression for gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor alpha 1 subunit were amplified.

Conclusion: The results showed that gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor gamma 1 subunit was expressed in the rat vestibule, indicating that GABA is one of the important neurotransmitters in the vestibular system.
