The Journal of Neuroscience Publication Fees
Page Charges
The Journal of Neuroscience has a flat publication fee of $850 for Regular Manuscripts and $450 for Brief Communications. Page charges do not apply for feature articles (Journal Clubs, Commentaries, etc.). Accepted manuscripts will not move into the production process until payment has been received.
Page charges should be paid by credit card. If a credit card cannot be used, a check or wire transfer can be accepted. Purchase orders are no longer accepted.
Color Charges
The Journal offers free color for figures when color is judged essential by the editors and when the first and last authors are members of the Society for Neuroscience. The price for work requiring special printing will be determined by the publisher (see Illustrations section).
Open Choice
Starting with manuscripts submitted after January 1, 2008, The Journal of Neuroscience will offer authors an option to pay a fee so their published article will be freely available on the Journal’s website as soon as it is published. The titles of open access articles are highlighted as “Free Access” in the online table of contents of the Journal, and anyone can access either the HTML or PDF version of the article. Authors will be asked if they want the Open Choice option in the email that is sent when the manuscript is accepted.
The Open Choice fee is in addition to the normal page and color charges. Authors will pay $2,500 for Regular Manuscripts and $1,250 for Brief Communications. These fees were determined to cover the cost to the Journal of peer reviewing, producing, and hosting an online article.
Reduced Charges
