Abstract

In a series of deoxyglucose (DG)-labeling experiments (Tootell RBH, Hamilton SL, Silverman MS, Switkes E, 1988, Functional Anatomy of Macaque Striate Cortex I: Ocular Dominance, Binocular Interaction, and Baseline Conditions. J Neurosci 8:1500–1530), some animals were injected with a low dose (0.05 mg/kg) of methamphetamine approximately 10 min prior to the infusion of the DG, and this was not included in the Methods section. Higher catecholamine levels have been reported to slightly sharpen DG-labeled cortical columns (e.g., Craik et al., 1987, Brain Res Bul 19:495–499). In control experiments the authors have determined that methamphetamine at these doses: (i) does not produce any obvious differences in DG labeling, relative to animals in which it is not used, and (ii) has minimal effect on anesthetic level, in the authors' anesthetic regimen.
